Step 1

Contact a travel agent or cruise lines directly to determine what cruises are available from America to England. Several well-known cruise lines offer voyages from the States to the United Kingdom. Cruise lines typically outline the details of each cruise on their websites.

Step 2

Compile a list of important information to help you choose the cruise that best suits your needs. Cruises from the United States to England typically take six to nine days from port to port. Most leave New York City and dock in Southampton, England, with no ports of call in between. Variables such as amenities, activities and shipboard events differ from one cruise line to another.

Step 3

Choose your departure date and book your cruise as early as possible to ensure your choice of accommodations. Transatlantic cruises occur less frequently than other types of cruises so reserve your accommodations before the cruise sells out. The majority of voyages from America to England take place from April through October. Booking early can save you money too, as can booking online.

Step 4

Pack according to the type of cruise you chose. Most cruises have some formal events. Take clothing appropriate for the events offered. A trip aboard the Queen Mary 2 may require dressier apparel than cruises on less formal vessels that sail from the U.S. to the UK. Other items you may want are swimsuits, deck shoes, shorts and casual ware, a lightweight jacket and jeans. Keep in mind that the temperatures in England are typically cooler than those in the U.S. in the summer months and warmer in the winter. Take into consideration the length of your cruise as well. Since you’ll be out at sea for a week or so, make sure you have enough clothing to last or be willing to take time out to do laundry.

Step 5

Bring along all appropriate travel documents such as your passport and driver’s license or government-issued I.D. A visa is not necessary for a U.S. citizen travel to England for tourism or business purposes for less than 90 days. England is part of the Visa Waiver Program.
